Course Description
First grade students are beginning to read. They are able to decipher titles of
books. They know where to locate their
favorite authors and to recognize the work of varying illustrators.
As the school year progresses, the first grade student’s
reading capabilities expand and library now becomes a place to explore their
interests to a greater extent. Besides
reinforcing all the knowledge they acquired in Kindergarten they are now
widening their horizons and discovering more of what a library can offer them.
As always, the first grade student is encouraged to express
her/his love of books and reading using numerous exciting activities. Now they are able to build upon their prior
knowledge of the library and to broaden their technical capabilities.

The mission of the Glen Ridge Public Schools Library/Media
program is to insure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and
information. Our program also encourages
our students to develop a passion for reading and provides the skills necessary
for lifelong learning in our digital society.
STANDARD 8.1 (COMPUTER
AND INFORMATION LITERACY) ALL STUDENTS WILL USE COMPUTER APPLICATIONS TO GATHER
AND ORGANIZE INFORMATION AND TO SOLVE PROBLEMS.
STANDARD 8.2 (TECHNOLOGY

ability to locate information from the Internet.
