Developing an Introduction

Regardless of your thesis, the first section on your outline will be an Introduction identified by the Roman Numeral I.

        I.   Introduction

            A.    Thesis statement  (present the statement and further explain it)

            B.    Background information  (introduce key concepts, provide definitions, give a broad overview)

            C.   Grab the reader's attention (perhaps with a startling statistic or an impressive quote)

The above example gives you an idea of what types of information should be included in an Introduction.  Exactly what you write for A,B, C, etc. and in which order you present these concepts depends on your individual thesis and personal choice.
