Research 8
Course Overview
This course focuses on the process
of preparing a research paper with particular attention paid to supporting
your thesis and structuring your writing. You will be expected to:

choose a topic of personal interest
and develop a thesis related to that topic
-
use all available resources to thoroughly
research your topic and support your thesis
-
prepare an outline of the information
that you plan to include in your paper and take relevant notes
-
summarize and paraphrase information
using your own words
-
find and properly document at least
1 relevant quote that you will include in your paper
-
locate and cite at least 3 different
sources in your paper (including at least 1 print source and 1 computer
source)
-
appropriately credit sources from which
you draw facts and ideas using parenthetical references
-
draft and revise a 3 – 5 page paper
plus a Works Cited page according to MLA style guidelines
Remember that these are skills you will
need to use again and again throughout your education. As in Research
7, your experience and learning in this course can affect your ability
to achieve success in future classes.
