GRADING SYSTEM
Ability Grouping
Students in grade 9 are grouped heterogeneously in Academic Classes. Within these groupings, an Honors Option is available in the areas of English and Social Studies. Accelerated courses in Mathmatics and Science are also available for selected 9th grade students who meet the required creiteria.
In grades 10, 11 and 12, Advanced Placement, Honors and College Preparatory courses are offered in Mathematics, Science, English, Foreign Language and Social Studies.
Honors and Advanced Placement courses are designed for the very able student in a particular subject. The content of these courses is more diffficult and the pace fo the instruction is accelerated. College Preparatory classes are designed for the average and above average student whose career goals include plans to attend college.
In this pattern of grouping, a student may be in an Honors course in one discipline and a College Preparotory course in another. The placement of a student in a group if flexible so that a program of studies may be developed that truly meets each student's individual needs.
High School Mid-Terms, Final Exams
All academic subjects will require that students complete a mid-term and final exam which will deal with skills and concepts studied throught the year. Each exam will carry a weight of one-tenth the final grade. Good study habits, note taking, and reviewing techniques are important ingredients to success on these important tests.
Interim Reports
Interim Reports will be sent to the parents highlighting student achievement. Interim reports will be mailed at the midpoint of each marking period.
Guidance Appointments
Students should make appointments to see their counselor through the guidance secretary. They may only arrange for such appointments during a free period or study hall.
Graduation Requirements
Students must have earned a minimum of 120 credits completed between grades 9 and 12. The number of class periods per week a class meets during the full school year will determine the credit value of the course. Courses conducted for less than the full school year will have their credit value reduced proportionately.
Scholarhips and Awards
There are many scholarships available to graduates. Application for any of these may be made each by pupils who cannot continue their education without assistance. They are awarded on the basis of scholarship, need, and character. Pupils applying for any of these scholarships are required to complete a formal application which requests specific information on the economic needs of the applicant.
Many colleges offer scholarships. Some are on the basis of need and other on a competitive basis. Information concerning college scholarships may be obtained from the Guidance Office.
