Policy
5112 ENTRANCE
The Board
shall establish entrance age requirements for students which are consistent
with statute and sound educational practice and which insure the equitable
treatment of all eligible children.
Pre-Kindergarten
Any child
residing in the district shall be admitted to the pre-kindergarten provided:
1. A
child is eligible for entrance into Pre-Kindergarten if he/she attains the age
of four on or before October 1 of the year in which he/she applies for
entrance;
2. Proof
shall be furnished of immunization against the communicable diseases at the
time of enrollment or such immunization shall be completed within thirty days
from date of entry into the school;
3. The
child shall have been examined by either the school or a private physician, and
the results shall be furnished to the school on the form provided.
Kindergarten
Any child
residing in the district shall be admitted to the Kindergarten provided:
1. The
child will have attained the age of five years on or before October 1 of that
school year;
2. Proof shall
be furnished of immunization against the communicable diseases at the time of
enrollment or such immunization shall be completed within thirty days from date
of entry into the school; and
3. The
child shall have been examined by either the school or a private physician, and
the results shall be furnished to the school on the form provided.
First
Grade
Any child
residing in the district shall be admitted to the first grade provided:
1. The
child will have attained the age of six years on or before October 1 of that
school year;
2. He/she
has been in first grade in another public school;
3. He/she
has completed an accredited kindergarten program elsewhere and has been
recommended by the teacher for advancement to the first grade; and
4. Proof
has been furnished of immunization against communicable diseases.
Proof of
Age
The
Superintendent shall require that each child who registers for entrance to the
school exhibit his/her birth certificate as proof of age and birth date.
Transfers
In To Grades Two Through Twelve
If the
family is residing in another district and the child is attending and is
transferring from another school, public school, or private school with a
comparable school curriculum, the age requirements for admission to
Kindergarten and first grade may be extended up to December 31 by the School
Principal.
Pupils
transferring into the district are expected to present copies of records from
the previously attended school (or district) to aid in placement. Also required are proof
of
immunization and proof of identity such as birth certificate, social security
card, etc, and proof of residency.
The
Superintendent shall request the pupil’s record in writing from the school or
district previous attendance within the time prescribed by law.
Initial
placement shall be made on the basis of the records, but adjustment may be made
at the discretion of the administration when the assessments indicate that such
adjustments would be beneficial to the child.
Parent(s) or legal guardian(s) shall be informed of this policy on
registration.
Affidavit
Pupils
When
there is any doubt as to whether a child is entitled to free public education
in the district schools, all procedures of the law shall be followed.
Nonresidents
The
district is obliged to educate children of appropriate age residing in the
district. The mere
owning of any property whatsoever does not qualify a parent or legal guardian
to send children to school in this school district. See policy 5118

Verification
The Board
reserves the right to verify the residency of any pupil and the validity of any
affidavit of guardianship.
Homeless
Pupils
The
district will determine the educational placement of homeless students in each
child’s best interest and respond to appeals concerning them made by parent(s)
or legal guardian(s) or other parties in accordance with
N.J.S.A.
