Entering Grade Seven

REQUIRED SUMMER READING

Dear Students:

At the end of the day, you will officially be on vacation.  Plans to travel, go to camp, participate in chosen activities are all part of the fun that a summer brings.  Included in that fun should be reading.  There are so many choices and sources for enriching your lives that one summer is not really sufficient.

For your required summer reading, the English Department has selected an enjoyable book:  Funny in Farsi by Firoozeh Dumas. It is the true story of a young girl’s experience growing up in the United States.  However, she has moved here with her family from another country where the language and customs are entirely different.  The story she tells is funny, interesting and thought provoking.  Read the book, and in the beginning of the year there will be an assessment assigned in class.

Enjoy the lazy days, and I am looking forward to seeing you in September.  Don’t forget to read, read, read!!
