Glen
Summer 2008
Dear English 12 Student:
The English Department of Glen Ridge High School believes
that summer reading is the best way for a student to continue the learning
process, make transitions to new classes and improve performance on
standardized tests. To this end, we are
requiring that you read Kite Runner by Khalid Hosseini over the course of this summer. The novel is very readable and
entertaining. Additionally, you should
watch the video of the novel, widely available at video stores for rental. In September you will be tested on this novel
and the film. There will be related
assignments as we begin the school year together.
In addition, we are
attaching a list of recommended reading.
You should read at least one book from this list.
You will write an essay about your choice in September as well. It may be best to do your reading in August so
that you can recall the novels, or you may want to annotate your reading so
that you can use those notes for class discussions.
Have a healthy and restful
summer. And keep reading!
Very truly yours,
The English Department
