Dear Eleventh Grade English Honors Student:

The English Department of Glen Ridge High School believes that summer reading is the best way for a student to continue the learning process and make transitions to new classes. Therefore, we are requiring that you read SARUM by Edward Rutherfurd over the course of the summer.

English 11 is a survey of British Literature spanning many eras of British history and literature ( from Anglo-Saxon times to the 21^st century). Rutherfurd’s epic novel covers these ages with encyclopedic detail. His use of verisimilitude is superb! It provides the perfect backdrop for the course.

Attached is an agenda for September, including your assignment for SARUM.

Additionally, a list of suggested reading is on the back of this letter.
