Message from the Superintendent:

I would like to thank Carol Harpster for her seven years of service; Lauraine Hollyer for six years of service and Richard Vecchiarello for three years of service to the Glen Ridge community as Board of Education members. Their work on behalf of the children of Glen Ridge has been instrumental to the successes we have experienced during their tenure. The following BOE members were elected: Sharon Dougherty; Karen Eisen; James O’Brien; and Janet Schiller. Additionally, thanks to everyone for supporting the district’s budget - 934 Yes to 576 No.

 

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT HIGHLIGHTS:

Building Project

  • We will be sending out a Construction Chronicle shortly with specifics. We are still scheduled to go out to bid during the early summer and begin construction before the start of school at the high school. The roof, windows and door projects at Forest and Linden will be done during the summer of 2003.

Administration

  • The Board approved the Glen Ridge Educational Foundation as the lead partner to work with the Mayor and Borough Council on exploring the feasibility of renovating the Ridgewood Avenue School Auditorium.
  • The Board approved that the Glen Ridge Board of Education work in concert with the Mayor and Borough Council to study and evaluate various means of property tax relief.
  • At the April 29th Reorganization Meeting, the following were appointed/approved for the 2002/2003 school year:
  • Treasurer of School Moneys – John Calavano
  • School and Team Physicians – First Care Medical Group
  • Auditor –Nisivoccia & Company
  • General Board Counsel – Anthony Sciarrillo, Esq. of Lindabury, McCormick & Estabrook
  • Architect –David Pease of Design Resources Group
  • AHERA Program Manager – John Dubuque
  • Affirmative Action Officer; 504 Coordinator; ADA Coordinator - Barbara Gemza

  • The Board approved:
  • Capital Projects Bills List – April 8, 2002 & April 29, 2002

    • The Board approved contracts with:
  • Ron’s Refrigeration for the installation of air conditioning in the High School Communications Studio.
  • COBRA Elec to administer services related to COBRA and retiree participants.
  • The Board accepted a grant from the Glen Ridge Educational Foundation, for half the cost of the installation of air conditioning for the Communications Studio at the High School.
  • Approved the Facilities Construction and Financing Act Sections 15 Grant Agreement.
  • Authorized the Delegation of Authority to the SBA/BS for the supervision of the addition and rehabilitation projects at the High School, Forest and Linden.
  • Accepted Glen Ridge Educational Foundation Spring 2002 Mini-Grants totaling $3,929.
  • Approved the Requisition for Taxes Schedule for the 2002/2003 school year.

PERSONNEL

The Board of Education:

  • Appointed Jamie Ruffilo as an English teacher at the High School for the 2002-2003 school year.
  • Accepted Jennifer Miele’s resignation as a 1st grade teacher at Linden effective June 30th.
  • Extended the Superintendent’s Contract through June 30, 2005.
  • Approved salary adjustments for confidential employees not covered in the GREA Agreement.
  • Approved various substitutes and co-curricular positions.
