Message from the Superintendent:

Thank you very much for your support of the 2003-2004 Glen Ridge Public School Budget. Congratulations to Mrs. Betsy Ginsburg and Mr. Robert McGovern on their re-election and to Mrs. Mary Ellen Cusamano on her election to the Board of Education. Additionally, I would like to personally thank outgoing Board member, Dr. George Kirsch, for his work on the BOE over the past three years.

 

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT HIGHLIGHTS:

Building Projects

  • The High School Construction Project is progressing in spite of the continued wet and snowy weather we experienced. Remember to visit www.glenridge.org to see up-to-date pictures of the progress thus far. During the next month, the following construction activities will take place at the High School.
  • Gym - block and exterior masonry, rough plumbing and electrical, pouring of the floor slab
  • Classroom Wing - steel erection and completion of the foundations and footings, start of block masonry
  • The roof replacement at Forest Avenue School has been accelerated for the beginning of May (weather permitting), due to continued leakage.

Administration

The Board of Education approved:

  • The adoption of the following policies and/or regulations:
  • Policy 5512 - Hazing
  • Regulation 5512 - Reporting Procedure – Hazing and/or Harassment, Intimidation, or Bullying
  • Regulation 8310 - Public Records
  • Policy and Regulation 8330 - Pupil Records
  • Policy 9713 - Recruitment of Special Interest Groups
  • The resolutions for the yearly reorganization of the BOE (a list of these resolutions can be found at www.glenridge.org)

Business/Financial Reports

The Board of Education approved the following financial reports:

  • Bills List through March 30, 2003

The Board of Education approved:

  • Home Instruction for three high school students due to illness.
  • Accepted, with thanks, the generous donation to the Linden Avenue School of 10 site licenses and upgrades of SuccessMaker Software at a value of $13,725.
  • Approved a petition to reverse the decision to withhold State Aid by the State of New Jersey.
  • The amended award contract for construction management services with regard to Turner Construction Company. (Bond - High School, Forest and Linden)
  • The amended award contract for professional engineering services with regard to Professional Planning and Engineering Corporation. (Bond - High School)
  • The amended award contract for professional architectural services with regards Design Resources Group Architects, AIA. (Bond - High School, Forest and Linden)
  • With thanks, the generous cash donations by many Glen Ridge residents for the High School Locker Project as of April 25, 2003.
  • Award contract for professional architectural services to Design Resources Group Architects, AIA. (High School Locker Project)
  • Cancellation of stale checks dated prior to June 30, 2002.
  • Accepted, with thanks, the generous gift of a DVD player from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute to the high school.
  • The requisition of taxes to fund the 2003-2004 school year.

PERSONNEL

The Board of Education approved the following:

  • Accepted, with regret, the resignations of Emily Feuer (Ridgewood/HS), Kristine Fulton (Forest), Patricia Woznick (HS/MS), and Catherine Johnson (HS)
  • The maternity leave of Deirdre Padilla, 4th Grade for the 2003-2004 school year
  • Appointed various substitutes

Curriculum:

  • Approved the application for continuation of the Cooperative Sports Program in Ice Hockey with the Verona BOE.
