Message from the Superintendent:

Happy New Year! I hope that as we deal with the tragedy our country has faced and continues to face, we all can enjoy the holiday season. I wish the New Year brings you health, happiness and peace! Enjoy!

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT HIGHLIGHTS:

Board of Education Fills Vacancy

The Board appointed Sharon Dougherty as a new member on the Board of Education until the next election. Ms. Dougherty replaces John Lacey who resigned for personal and professional reasons.

 

Board of Education Honors Students

The Board of Education publicly honored the 2002 Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholars, as well as the 2001 Girls’ Group I State Soccer Champions.

 

Building Project

The Board approved the conceptual site plan for the high school addition. Our professionals are working on the project drawing for state review.

 

Policy Review

The Board approved a formal policy review by Strauss Esmay Associates. Additionally, the Board approved a policy concerning the responsible use of technology.

 

Business - Contracts & Donations

The Board of Education approved:

  • Out-of-district placement for a special education student.
  • Acceptance of a generous donation from the GRAA for additional boys and girls basketball games.
  • A joint transportation contract with the Bloomfield Board of Education.
  • A contract for the removal and installation of new auditorium doors, which were damaged by a vehicle.
  • Sawtelle Outreach as a provider of Applied Behavioral Analysis Services for a pre-school disabled student, and Occupational Therapy Services for an out-of-district placed student.
  • The disposal of the district’s un-repairable and worthless 1982 Ford Station Wagon.

 

Board Documentation

The Board approved both Executive Session and Regular Board Meeting Minutes through November 2001.

 

Financial Reports

The Board of Education approved:

  • Fund balance as of October 31, 2001.
  • Secretary’s Report through October 31, 2001.
  • Treasurer of School Moneys Report for October 31, 2001.
  • Budget transfers for the month of October, 2001.
  • Bill lists through November 30, 2001 & December 14, 2001.
  • Capital Projects Bill List through December 12, 2001.

PERSONNEL

New Appointments:

  • Alice Baker - Lampost Advisor, Ridgewood Avenue School
  • Emily Feuer - Choral/Music Teacher, Ridgewood Ave/High School
  • Guiseppe Giardina - Custodian, High School
  • Rocco Iadanza - Custodian, High School
  • Christopher Troyano - Assistant Track Coach
  • Substitutes - teachers, custodians and a school nurse.
