Message from the Superintendent:

Happy New Year! I hope 2003 brings you and your family good health and much happiness!

During the beginning of December, I had to close schools early due to a winter storm that hit our area earlier than predicted. In addition to calling homes, we used an e-mail notification system called GRCorner. This is a service provided by a volunteer community member, which is the digital-age replication to the borough signs at the corner of Ridgewood and Bloomfield Avenues. The concept is to quickly provide community information to a wide audience. If you would like to be added to the list, please send your e-mail address to GRCorner1@comcast.com. Additionally, we as a district would like to start using e-mail to send out notices that can overwhelm student backpacks. I would like to pilot this before the end of the school year. Each school asked for e-mail addresses on their individual blue student enrollment cards but only about 50% of the parents filled that part out. Please send your e-mail address to Ms. Winnie Boswell, our Director of Technology at GRPS@glenridge.org. This will enable them to set up e-mail lists to send information out to you. Please feel free to send work and home e-mail addresses as well as both parents’ information and state your child(ren)’s name and the school(s) they attend. Thank you.

Remember: Please check www.glenridge.org and 973-429-8300 ext. 4222 (or just press #8 when you hear the menu) for updates on construction and pictures of the construction. New pictures are added almost every day.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT HIGHLIGHTS:

Building Projects

  • The High School construction project is progressing despite extremely wet weather this fall. The footings and foundations will start to be installed this week and should be completed by the beginning of the new year with the installation of steel to follow. This has been delayed due to extreme mud conditions. They have started to install the retaining wall for the softball field while the new wing area dries out. In the next month, pending good weather, you will see the near completion of footings and foundations for the entire job, installation of the new site drainage system, as well as the erection of steel.
  • On Thursday, December 19th, we will open bids for the windows, doors and roof projects at the Forest and Linden Avenue wings. This will be presented to the public at the first meeting in January.
