Message from the Superintendent:

On February 12, 2003 at 7:30 pm, the Garden State Coalition of Schools is hosting a summit on equity in state school funding. If you are interested in attending, please contact Betsy Ginsburg, Board President, at Eginsburg@glenridge.org.

Last week, a speaker at a function I attended quoted a study on improving literacy. He maintained that keeping your TV’s closed caption function turned on promotes early literacy and reinforcement. I thought this was very interesting. Television, even with closed caption activated, doesn’t replace reading, but I think it is worth implementing. Try it!

If you would like to be added to the e-mail list for GRCorner, please send your e-mail address to Grcorner1@comcast.net. Additionally, the district would like to begin using e-mail to send out information to you. Please send your e-mail address to GRPS@glenridge.org so e-mail lists can be set up. Please feel free to send both parents’ information including work and home e-mail addresses. Thank you.

Remember: Please check www.glenridge.org and 973-429-8300 ext. 4222 (or just press #8 when you hear the menu) for construction updates and pictures of the construction progress. New pictures are added almost every day.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT HIGHLIGHTS:

Building Projects

  • The High School Construction Project is continuing to progress even with the wet and extremely cold weather that we have been experiencing. The steel installation for the gym is complete and will be followed by masonry work. They will be completing the foundations and footings in the classroom wing, followed by steel installation.
  • On Thursday, December 19th, we opened bids for the Forest and Linden Avenue Schools. The Forest Avenue bid was awarded to Tekton Development from Paterson, NJ. Unfortunately, the Linden bid was over the budgeted amount and was contested. Thus, we will re-bid the Linden Avenue project and open the re-bids during the week of February 10th.
