SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT HIGHLIGHTS:
Building Projects
- The demolition of 10 High Street and the widening of the back driveway at Ridgewood Avenue will take place this summer. It will begin right after school is out. Please do not use the back parking lot at Ridgewood this summer.
- The High School will be closed from August 5th – 19th for asbestos removal. This project is in preparation for the expansion at the High School.
- We are still on schedule to go out to bid on the High School project during the early summer. We expect to break ground during the late summer or early fall.
Administration
The Board of Education approved:
- The waiver of graduation requirements for regular and special education students who want to participate in work-study or vocational education.
- The submission of the English Language Services Three Year Plan – 2002-2005.
- The acceptance for submission of the Special Education Self-Assessment and Corrective Action Plan.
- Authorization of the Board leadership, the Superintendent and Business Administrator to conduct Board of Education business through the summer resolution process.

The Board of Education:
- Approved the revised Educational Specifications for the High School expansion.
- Accepted, with thanks, the generous donation of $500 from Lisa Cinotti for the purchase of library books at the Linden Avenue School.
- Accepted, with thanks, the generous donation of $5,000 from the Linden Avenue Home and School for the purchase of "Teacher Wish List" items.
- Accepted, with thanks, the generous donation of $37,000 from the Mayor’s Gala and the GRAA for the purchase and installation of a new gym floor at the Ridgewood Avenue School.
- Accepted, with thanks, the generous donation of (7) phonic ears from the Forest Avenue Home and School.
- Approved the lease of Pitney Bowes postage machines for the 2002-2003 school year.
- Approved sidewalk replacement work at Forest Avenue School and floor replacement work at both Forest Avenue and Linden Avenue Schools.
- Awarded asbestos abatement work at Glen Ridge High School to B&G Restoration, Inc.
PERSONNEL
The Board of Education approved the following appointments:

- Kay Scheren - Instructional Aide - Linden
- Noah Gest - Music Teacher - Ridgewood
- Rachel Miscia - Physical Education - High School
- Approved summer student custodial, secretary and technology workers for summer work.
- Various substitutes, coaches, advisors and volunteers.
- Staff assignments for the Extended Special Education School Year.
The Board of Education approved the following Resignations/Retirement/ Terminations:
- Larry Pellegrino (Termination of services)
- Kelly Flynn (Resignation)
- Julie Hayes (Termination of services)

The Board approved
- The transfer of Juliann Miller to Ridgewood Avenue for the 2002/2003 school year.
- Childcare leave for Genine D’Andrea, Resource Room teacher at the high school through January 31, 2003.
Curriculum:
The Board approved:
- Tuition students and children of non-resident employees to attend school for the 2002-2003 school year.
- Rescind tuition contract for out-of district special education student who moved out of town.
- Approved the educational service provided by the NJ Commission for the Blind for the 2002-2003 school year.
- Approved Vocational Evaluation Services for an out-of district student.
- Approved out-of-district placements for two special education students and for two half-time placements at the Essex County Vocational School for the 2002/2003 school year.
