Message from the Superintendent:
June is a busy month for the Glen Ridge Public Schools. We have promotion and graduation in addition to other end of the year activities. This summer will also be very busy. Construction will continue at the High School, roofing, door replacements and window projects will take place at Forest and Linden Avenue Schools, and the carpeting in the hallways at Ridgewood Avenue School will be replaced with tile flooring. Please be careful around the construction projects.
SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT HIGHLIGHTS:
Building Projects
- The High School Construction Project is progressing even though the wet spring has caused some delays. Remember to visit
www.glenridge.org to see up-to-date pictures of the progress so far. During the next month, the following construction activities will take place at the High School:
- Gym - exterior brickwork will be completed, floor slab will be poured, interior walls will be installed, and roof installed
- Classroom Wing - steel erection to be completed, block and exterior masonry will begin, rough electrical, plumbing and mechanical installed
- Installation of new building boilers
- The wing roof replacement projects at Forest and Linden Avenue Schools will take place at the end of the school year. In addition to roofs, windows and exterior doors will also be replaced.
Administration
The Board of Education approved:
- Chris Ward as the delegate to the NJSBA and Jim O’Brien as the alternate
- The regular and executive session minutes for March 3, 2003 and March 24, 2003 Board meetings
Business/Financial Reports
The Board of Education approved the following financial reports:
- Treasurer of School Money Report – March 31, 2003
- Secretary’s Report – March 31, 2003
- Bills List through March 31, 2003 & May 16, 2003
- Certification of Fund Balances – March 31, 2003
- Budget Transfers for the month of March 2003
The Board approved the following business items:
- Accepted, with thanks, the generous donation of various athletic supplies (valued at $2,250) from the Ashenfelter 8K Race
- Accepted, with thanks, the generous cash donations of $1,150 through May 2nd and $1,450 through May 16th for the High School Locker Fund
- Budget revision for the 2002/2003 IDEA-B Basic Grant
- Submission of the 2004 IDEA – Part B Application
- Accepted, with thanks, the generous donation of $1,500 from Mr. Hageman for classroom materials for first grade students at Linden Ave
- Accepted, with thanks, the generous anonymous gift of $5,000 for Linden’s Balanced Literacy Library
- Accepted, with thanks, the generous donation from Glen Ridge Educational Foundation of Mini-Grants totaling ($2,020). Teacher recipients are: Kathleen McArdle, Laura Perrius, Robert Stomber, Lisbeth Crouse-DiFrancesco, Jaime Fitzgerald, and Nancy Coon
- Accepted, with thanks, the generous donation of air conditioning for the Forest Avenue multi-purpose room (valued at $17,900) from the Forest Avenue Home and School
PERSONNEL
The Board of Education approved the following appointments/resignations:
- With regret, the resignation of Bryan Hensz, Assistant Principal at the Ridgewood Avenue School, to accept a Principalship in another district
- Appointed the following new staff:
- Nicole Marzouk - Social Studies/GRHS
- Moira Treacy - Mathematics/GRHS
- Mayra Bachrach - Computer Science/GRHS
- Gianna Marino - LDT-C/District
- Caitlin Reilly - Special Education Aide/GRHS
- Bernard Ziegler - Night Custodian/Ridgewood
- With regret, the resignations of the following staff:
- Louis Kennedy - Secretary/Forest
- Chris Alworth - Special Education Aide/GRHS
- David Auerbach - 3rd Grade/Ridgewood
- Re-appointments of personnel for the 2003-2004 school year
