Message from the Superintendent: During the past few weeks, as a society, we have suffered a great loss to our security. Yet, we have witnessed great acts of heroism and kindness. If there is one item I hope stays with us following this tragic event, it is the ability of people to act genuinely kind towards each other. People make honest mistakes, outcomes are not always as you wish, and plans are not always followed to your liking, yet, people are trying. I hope everyone takes a step back before they get upset and see what is good in this world and truly important. SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT HIGHLIGHTS: Contracts The Board of Education approved:
Building Expansion and Renovation Committee The Board of Education has partnered with the Borough Government to organize a construction committee pending passage of the bond referendum. Annual District Report on Vandalism, Violence and Substance Abuse The Board of Education approved the New Jersey Department of Education Annual District Report on Vandalism, Violence and Substance Abuse for the 2000-2001 school year. District Five-Year Curriculum Review Schedule The Board of Education approved the revised District Five-Year Curriculum Review Schedule. This year we will be reviewing Social Studies; implementing Language Arts; monitoring World Language; writing Mathematics; monitoring Science; writing Technology Education (grade level goals); monitoring Visual Arts; monitor Music; review Practical Arts; monitor Physical Education; and write Health. We will also update our grade level goals for Character Education during the 2001-2002 school year. Financial Reports The Board of Education approved the financial reports ending August 30, 2001 and the bill list ending August 30, 2001 & September 21, 2001. Accepted IDEA Part B Combined Grant The Board of Education accepted $183,658 for the fiscal year 2002 Grant Acceptance Certificate (GAC) Individuals with Disability Education Act (IDEA-B) Combined.
Establish Learning and/or Language Disabilities Class The Board of Education approved the establishment of a Learning and/or Language Disabilities Class at Ridgewood Avenue School (Intermediate II). Quality Assurance Annual Report and District Testing Report The Board of Education was presented and approved the District’s Quality Annual Assurance Report and the District Testing Report.
