Message from the Superintendent:

 

 For the past several weeks, the Board of Education has been discussing the 2002-2003 school year budget. On March 25th, the Board of Education adopted its budget for the 2002-2003 school year. The budget, as well as the Power Point presentation, may be accessed at www.glenridge.org. A detailed budget newsletter will be mailed home prior to the annual election. SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT HIGHLIGHTS:

 

Building Project

·         The architectural drawings are proceeding on schedule. The drawings are scheduled for completion and review by late spring/early summer. The bidding for the projects will take place during the summer with construction scheduled to start before the beginning of school in the fall.

 

Administration

·         The Board ratified the Master Agreement between the Glen Ridge Board of Education and the Glen Ridge Education Association.

·         The Board approved giving back three emergency closing days originally built into the school calendar.  Due to the easy winter we experienced, and the fact that these emergency days were not used, schools will be closed on Friday, May 24th and Tuesday, May 28th. Additionally, the last day of school will be Tuesday, June 25th instead of Wednesday, June 26th.  (June 25th will be a half-day.)

·         The Board approved the Glen Ridge Public Schools’ Professional Development Plan for the 2002/2003 school year as approved by the State Department of Education.

 

Curriculum

·         The Board will be distributing a Homework Policy Survey. This survey will be mailed home for grades 7-12 for parents to complete and will be administered to students in school for those grade levels. It will also be backpacked for grades 3-6 for parental completion and administered in school to students in those grade levels.

·         The Board approved minutes for:

·          Regular Board of Education Meetings of February 4, February 11, and February 25, 2002.

·          Executive Sessions of February 4, February 11, and February 25, 2002.

 

 

 

 

Business/Financial Reports

The Board approved:

·         Fund Balance as of January 31, 2002 & February 28, 2002.

·         Secretary’s Report through January 31, 2002 & February 28, 2002.

·         Treasurer of School Moneys Report for February 28, 2002.

·         Budget transfers for the month of January 31, 2002 & February 28, 2002.

·         Capital Projects Bill List – None this month.

·         Bill List through February 28, 2002 & March 22, 2002.

·         Appropriation from surplus for the asbestos abatement project at 10 High Street.

·         The Board approved professional service contracts as follows:

·       The Board appointed Grinspec Consulting to be the Broker of Record for the

District’s medical insurance coverage.

·       The Board awarded Two Brothers Contracting the asbestos abatement project

for 10 High Street.

·         The Board of Education adopted the 2002/2003 school year budget submission:

·          General Fund:                    $16,890,130

·          Special Revenue Fund:      $     245,506

·          Debt Service Fund:            $     987,733

·          Total Budget:                     $18,123,369   

·         The Board accepted a gift of $860 from the GRAA to add additional games for both freshman baseball and softball teams.

·         The Board accepted a gift of 8 Ping golf bags with “Glen Ridge” on the side from Mr. John Eggleston.

·         The Board approved tuition rates for the 2002/2003 school year:

                                      Pre-K to Grade 6            $6,300

                                      Middle School (7-8)       $9,200

                                      High School (9-12)         $9,300

 

Personnel

The Board of Education approved:

·         Various substitutes for the remainder of the school year.

·         The extension of childcare leave to Kristina Fulton for the 2002/03 school year.

·         The appointment of Victor Wu as Kim Burk’s replacement during her maternity leave.

·         The transfer of Kevin Lagos to the High School starting in September 2002.
