You will be graded based on the following:
Tests/Projects/Essays/Quarterly Exams- 30%
Basically, anything “big” that you will prepare for will be included in this category. I will give you review materials, outlines, supports, etc. to help you prepare for the task. Many times, we will complete the majority of preparation in class together. You will have ample time to prepare for tests, projects, essays, and quarterly exams.
Homework is posted on Google Classroom each night. Most homework tasks are not given a number grade. If you complete the task, you will receive a 100%. If you do not complete it, you will receive a 0%. If the assignment is half complete, you will receive a 50%. I will let you know ahead of time if the assignment will be graded.
We will complete class work on a daily basis. The tasks and activities will vary based on the skills we are practicing or content we are covering. Most class work assignments are graded on a ✔+ (A+), ✔ (B+), ✔- (C or below).
Quizzes are short assessments that will help to measure your understanding of the content. All quizzes will be announced ahead of time. Please note that a “Reading Check Quiz” may be given any time reading is assigned.
You will receive a score of 0-3 based on your classroom participation at the end of each week.
- Homework assignment pad (Agenda Book)
- Pens/pencils/highlighters/ index cards
- 3-Ring binder with dividers and loose-leaf (it is ok to share with other classes, talk to your AD teacher to see what may work best for you)
- Glen Ridge issued chromebook
It is your responsibility to complete any work missed due to an absence. If you know you will be absent ahead of time, please let me know and I will usually be able to give you the work you will miss prior to your absence. If you are absent due to an illness, feel free to email me for assignments and/or check Google Classroom. You will be given an extra time to make-up the assignments.
Make-Up Work/Retake Policy
We have all accidently missed a homework assignment or forgotten to study to a quiz. It happens once in awhile! You will be able to make-up missing work for up to 2 weeks after the due date, however points will be deducted for lateness. If you earn an assessment grade that you do not feel represents your best work, you will have the opportunity to retake it. However, you must meet me with period 9 to discuss steps we will take to improve your study habits and/or test taking skills for the specific assessment.
Online Grade Book
You have constant access to your grades through Skyward. Grades will be posted as soon as I assess each assignment. An asterisk (*) indicates that I have not yet graded the assignment. A zero (0) indicates that the assignment was not completed and/or turned in.
Your chromebook will be used frequently in our class and must be brought every day. Please charge it every night. Many tasks will be assigned via Google Classroom. You will occasionally be permitted to listen to music during creative assignments. Please remember that if you abuse this privilege, you will lose it! Cell phones should be off and away. If there is an emergency and you need to use your cell phone, please speak to me privately.
Google Classroom is a great way for us to communicate and stay organized with assignments. You will find homework/classwork assignments, important class documents, and resources on Classroom. I will also post reminders for your convenience. You will be required to complete and/or submit many assignments on Google Classroom.
Getting in Contact with Me:
The best way to get in touch with me is via email (firstname.lastname@example.org). I usually check my email frequently and will respond to you ASAP. I can also be easily found in room 300 during period 9 (2:47-3:15) each day. Feel free to stop by for extra help or just to chat.
