College Bound Students Medical Supply Kit
There is a strong chance that you won’t use everything on this list. But sooner or later you will get sick and nobody wants to have to worry about medicine when they are sick, or have a paper due or worse NO CAR. So stock up now and have this stuff ready just in case.
Tylenol, which is good for a fever, headache or when you have a virus
Advil, for muscle aches, headaches, or fever. MUST be taken with food
Cold Medicine, such as Nyquil (makes you sleepy), over the counter cold and sinus medicine, cough medicine (read label to see which type you need) and cough drops
Vitamins, good time to start taking a daily vitamin to stay healthy
Thermometer, Buy a digital one, only about $7 but worth it
Allergies, if you have prescription medicine bring it with you. If not buy an OTC antihistamine, (again some make you drowsy), nasal spray and eye drops are a must.
Immodium, for diarrhea, upset stomach. I prefer this over Pepto since Pepto contains aspirin which may further increase irritation, (soft toilet paper also helps)
Fiber, fruits and vegetables are important for the diet to help avoid constipation, Bad diet of junk food and not enough water can cause stomach problems so talk to your child about proper diet.
Antacids, ingestion happens, especially after late night pizza, be prepared
Injuries, bring a variety of sizes of Band-Aids, along with peroxide to clean (although soap will do) Neosporin ointment. Ace bandages are also good to have just in case along with medical tape.
Shower shoes, athlete's foot is not needed!Medical Alert Bracelet, if they have a medical condition please make sure they bring and wear their bracelet.
Insurance and Prescription Card
Make a copy of both for your child to have with him
If they are on a prescription medicine call ahead to a pharmacy there, especially if it is chain pharmacy, your doctor can fax them the prescription before hand. Also make sure there are refills on it so they do not run out.
Illness while away at school
Once your child is 18 years old, the doctor’s and hospital will not talk to you with out written consent from your child.(who is now legal) You can get a medical release form or a notarized letter for him/her to take with them.
