Frequently Asked Questions for 2017-2018:
Q: Do I have to be in great shape to do CrossFit?
A: Nope, not at all. You need only be healthy and willing to do what your body will allow. You need not be self-conscious; we will celebrate what you can do not how you look. Whatever sport you play, CrossFit will make it better. CrossFit is a perfect off-season activity to compliment your sport and health. There will also be yoga and mobility exercises to help get you limber and warm.
Q: What if I cannot perform all of the movements or can only do them slowly, is that an issue?
A: It's all good. CrossFit is not a "one-sizes-fits-all" type of program and most movements are able to be modified and scaled for you to get the same results. Think more in terms of equal effort not necessarily equal load or repetition.
Q:Do I need special equipment or clothing to participate?
A: You'll need sneakers, comfortable workout clothing, a small towel, water and a great attitude!
Q: I don't wan't to lift a lot of weights. Am I going to get bulky?
A: Hey, was that an actual question? The CrossFit Kids program will not put you underneath a heavy barbell so relax. You won't get "bulky" but you may become more defined.
Q: I'm older and I want to lift heavy weights and get stronger, can I if I already use the weight room on my own?
A: Let's talk in person, I cannot answer this online for you but I will say that the weight-training that you are referring will not be offered to 7th and 8th graders in the CrossFit Kids program. However, it might be offered as a specialty class later for high school students enrolled in the Ridger CrossFit Barbell Program.
Q: How many times per week can I take it?
A: I will start with classes being offered after-school at 3:30PM to 4:15PM, twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Q: Okay, you are our Assistant Principal and our Coach? What do we call you in class?
A: In class I'm Coach Harris, Coach K or whatever respectfully moves you but I'll answer to Doctor too. Be easy, I have a great sense of humor and will enjoy some downtime with you too- we are going to have a lot of fun together.
