    Dear Parents:

As you hopefully know, the students will begin PARCC testing next week.  Our 3rd and 5th graders will test beginning April 24th and our 4th and 6th graders will test beginning the week of May 1st.  We also have make-up dates and ask you to please let us know in advance if you know of absences during testing.

Please read below for information about the testing environment.  During standardized testing (and actually, every day!), we always encourage students to get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast and arrive to school on time and comfortable.

Students may require headphones for portions of the test. Additionally, students may use headphones during any portion of the assessment as a noise-buffering device. We will have ear buds provided for each student.  However, we recognize many of our students have their own ear buds; they may be a great fit for their ear and the child might prefer using their own. In that case, we ask you to simply send them in during the week of testing in a zip lock bag with your child’s name on it. Any wired, mono or stereo headphone with a standard 3.5 mm connector type is acceptable. Wireless or Bluetooth headphones are not permitted.

The computer-based testing interface includes an integrated, on-screen calculator that is available to students during any calculator active portion of the math assessment. We will have calculators available for students to use if they would rather that than the calculator function on the computer.

    Recreational Reading Materials

Students will be permitted to read recreational materials when they have completed testing. The reading materials must not be related to the curriculum or instructional program and may not define, explain, or illustrate terminology or concepts or otherwise provide potentially unauthorized assistance during testing.

Items Prohibited in the Testing Environment

        • All cellular phones
        • Other non-test-related personal electronic equipment (MP3 plyers, eReaders, etc.)
        • Instructional aids
        • Reference books
        • Any resource that defines, explains, or illustrated terminology or concepts or otherwise provides unauthorized assistance during testing
        • Food and drink

Our PARCC testing schedule is below; please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher or to me if you have questions.

    Mr. Donovan
