Glen Ridge Art Patrons Association (GRAPA)

Every year the Glen Ridge Art Patrons Association (GRAPA) awards scholarships to Glen Ridge High School students going on to a career in the fine, graphic and media arts.

The award process begins in April as an art exhibit which is organized by the GR High School Art Department, headed by Anne Malone.

The exhibit showcases to parents and friends the wonderful art created by the HS students.

GRAPA takes this opportunity to provide three judges, who are professional artists themselves, to evaluate the entries and select first, second and third place winners.

The selected Seniors are then eligible to be awarded monetary scholarships from GRAPA at the annual Awards Presentation held in June.

The judges also select three promising artists from the Junior class who are awarded gift certificates at the April art show exhibit.

The only requirement for the scholarship recipients is to provide a copy of their freshman college year curriculum to verify that they are pursuing an education in the arts.

Please submit all applications by 5/11/2020.

Honoring the character of Jim Gillespie, a life-long resident of New Jersey and a graduate of Glen Ridge High School, class of 1983. This scholarship program rewards one college-bound student with financial assistance to pursue higher education. Recipient will be awarded a $1000 scholarship for undergraduate study expenses, including tuition, fees, books, supplies, room, and board.

Jim lived his life lifting others up. Whether he was on the baseball field, the football field, or walking down the halls of GRHS, he made people smile. He was friends with people across all groups in school, as well as throughout his life, a life that always included a connection to his love of Glen Ridge.

He is missed for his ability to find humor in most situations, always with a well-timed joke. He worked hard and was a star athlete but he did not take life too seriously, understanding that his relationships with others meant more than winning the game.

If you feel you would be a candidate for this scholarship, please submit an essay that describes how you exemplify the qualities of Jim Gillespie, as well as two letters of recommendation.
