Why is physical education important?Physical education is important in that it enables students to utilize a wide variety of skills in order to acheive specific goals. In the physical education setting, students are introduced to a variety of individual sports, team sports, cooperative games, fitness activities, and adventure activities. Through participation in individual sports, students are able to focus on various individual sports components. Through participation in team sports, students are able to focus on teamwork abilities, communication skills, and sports strategies. Through participation in cooperative games, students are able to focus on critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Through fitness activities, students are able to enhance cardiovascular fitness through a variety of different activities. Through adventure activities, students are able to engage in both low and high element activities which help to foster trust-building.Physical Education Units According to Season:

Speedball Volleyball Softball Soccer Basketball Team Handball Football Hockey Ultimate Frisbee Adventure (9th Grade) Dance Speedball Cooperative/Tag Games Weight Room/Fitness Adventure (10th Grade) 7th Grade Health: 7th Grade Health focuses primarily on basic life skills. Some of the main topics which are covered include building a positive self-esteem, managing stress, improving communication techniques, and building healthy relationships. In addition, topics such as nutrition, abuse, safety, and the dangers of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco use are covered. For additional information regarding grading and classroom rules, see the attached syllabus.
