    MAY 13th GRAPA ART SHOW
               Work will be displayed through the halls of Ridgewood Avenue School for Grades 3-6th. Please follow Red Arrows toward student work.  Work will be displayed from 10am-5pm. There is additional work outside the door of the Makerspace below the Main Office.

    WE ARE BACK IN THE MAKERSPACE!!!!
     

    2016-2017 School Year

    S.T.E.A.M. 
    Science Technology Engineering Art Math
     
    1st Project-The 3rd Grade has learned about the artist Wassily Kandinsky and his designs using Concentric Circles
    They also learned about Dendrochronology the science of tree dating. This coincides with their knowledge of concentric circles.
    In the Process the 3rd Graders learned about the Element of Art:Value, Tint, Shade and the Principle of Art Contrast.
     
    2nd Project The Students then created a piece of artwork inspired by the Makerspace and is now being displayed around our "Makertree". 
     
     
    3rd Project- the 3rd Graders brainstormed words that described the Makerspace. We chose 32 words and each student created a letter out of our MakerMaterials that when combined created our description words which will then be used as Art for our Makerspace.  
     
    4th Project- The 3rd Grade students are currently learning about artist MC Escher. We discussed Perspective and Plane as well as the Principle of Art: Pattern. They created stencils which will become a TESSELLATION.
     
    The 4th Grade will begin learning about Artist Alexander Calder who was not only a sculptural artist but a mechanical engineer. Students will choose to create 1 of 5 areas in which Alexander Calder specialized in.
    1)Mobile
    2)Stabile
    3)Wire Sculpture
    4)2 Dimensional work with shapes and lines using only "pure" colors

    What is Camp Invention?

    Camp Invention is one week in the summer where your child’s creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills are challenged and developed in fun and exciting ways. Our top priority is to inspire future innovators and build their confidence in the natural ability to dream and create.
