About Me!

Hi there and thank you for visiting my webpage!

My name is Sharon Smith and I am one of three District Learning Consultants in the Glen Ridge School District.  I am part of the District Child Study Team, but my office is located at Ridgewood Avenue School.  At Ridgewood Avenue School I work together with Mrs. Lombard (School Psychologist) to Case Manage IEP students.

I am an alumni of William Paterson University where I am currently working towards my School Supervisor Certification.  I am simultaneously working towards my Certificate in Orton Gillingham through Fairleigh Dickinson University.

I previously earned NJ Standard Certificates as a Learning Disabilities Consultant, Teacher of Students with Disabilities & Elementary School Teacher (K-8).  My degrees include M. Ed. in Special Education (Learning Disabilities), Bachelor of Arts in Sociology (concentration in Social Services) & Minor in Women’s Studies

Prior to starting my position as an LDTC in Glen Ridge, my professional experiences have included teaching Kindergarten, Second Grade as well as providing Resource & Inclusion Support to Special Education students.

The Role of a Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant (LDTC)

The role of a Learning Disabilities Consultant (LDTC) is to collaborate with other members of The Child Study Team to determine Eligibility for Special Education Services.  A Learning Consultant also collaborates or "consults" with many others, such as teachers, administrators and parents.

The Role of a Case Manager

The role of a case manager is to be your point of contact for your child.  There are many responsibilities that a case manager has, such as overseeing a student’s IEP, coordinating services within that IEP & facilitating meetings with parents and teachers.
